Baked Pears with Cardamom (Dessert)

"It does not matter if you are a rose or a lotus or a marigold.

What matters is that you are flowering."

Baked Pears with Cardamom (Dessert)

This recipe feels like a warm hug on a cold day. Baked pears help calm the heart, relieve restlessness, nurture the digestive system, and serve as a gentle laxative. They also serve us a natural expectorant, making this an ideal recipe for helping to heal asthma or bronchitis, or break up excess mucus without creating inflammation. This recipe can make a great evening dessert, or a comforting breakfast for those who suffer from constipation and/or slow digestion.

Ingredients:

  • 3 pears

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil (not toasted) or ghee

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom

  • 2 pinches black pepper

  • 1 tsp sucanat, maple syrup or coconut sugar

  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350.

  2. Slice pears in half. Cut out the stems and the cores. Place cut side up in a covered baking dish with 2 tbsp of water.

  3. Combine oil and spices together. If possible, use freshly ground cardamom and black pepper and freshly grated nutmeg. Drizzle oil and spice mixture over fruit. Sprinkle with the sweetener of your choice and cover with foil.

  4. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Pierce with a fork to check if they are fully cooked. When fully cooked, remove from oven and allow them to cool slightly before serving.
