Why Should I Boost My Digestion at Spring?
Good digestion is one of the most important factors in natural health.
When our digestion is strong — seen in a good appetite, satisfaction at meals and regular elimination — it gives us a clear, focused mind, strong body tissues and glowing skin.
Slow, sluggish digestion is common at spring. As we transition to warmer weather, everything that was formerly stagnant in our bodies starts moving (with the melting snow). This can cause irritability, sugar cravings, fatigue, slow digestion and lack of appetite.
According to ayurveda, spring is also the best time of year to try to lose weight or establish new lifestyle habits.
What is trikatu?
Trikatu is formula which helps to stimulate digestion by increasing the digestive fire (agni). It also helps to detoxify the intestinal tract, clear respiratory conditions (e.g. coughs, colds, mucus), balance water retention and boost your metabolism, and can support any spring weight loss plans.
Trikatu is heating, making it ideal for treating kapha and vata-type digestion.
- In a glass jar, combine equal parts of dry ginger root powder and ground black pepper with two parts powdered anise seed (or fennel). Choose organic where possible.
- Put a nice label on it.
- Take 1/2 a teaspoon – 1 teaspoon two or three times daily, approx. 20 mins before meals.
- You can also mix this formula with honey and/or ghee to form a paste. (It may or may not be delicious, depending on your sense of taste).
