I have found the practice of self-massage to be totally invaluable to the health of my skin, body and overall sense of nourishment. It is especially useful as the cooler fall weather sets in in Canada, although it’s a beautiful way to nourish your entire body year-round.
When I first heard about self-massage, I thought it was pretty luxurious and not really “for me”. However, as I kept hearing about its benefits as I read through my ayurveda books, I was determined to give it a try. At first, I tried it to calm myself down when work was hectic and I had the apartment to myself… Slowly, it became a weekly habit… and then daily…:)
One of the most famous ayurvedic texts, called the Charaka Samhita, states:
“The body of one who uses oil massage regularly does not become affected much, even if subjected to accidental injuries or strenuous work. By using oil massage daily, a person is endowed with pleasant touch, trimmed body parts, and becomes strong, charming and least affected by old age.”
